Description and Details
About Deer Hill Expeditions
Located in beautiful southwestern Colorado, we are an adventure education and service organization for seventh through twelfth graders that facilitates multi-sport expeditions and service learning journeys highlighting the mosaic of landscapes and cultures that make up the Four Corners Region. Our combination of in-depth wilderness experiences and real community service projects with native peoples makes us unique. Deer Hill Expeditions is based on integrity, history, a sense of place and belonging, and a community of people passionate about providing inspiring journeys. With 25 years of programming experience in “our backyard”, we create programs that flow beautifully from location to location, activity to activity – from the rivers, to the canyons, to the mountains, to the Hopi, Navajo, Zuni and Ute reservations. Our mission statement, “To inspire courage and compassion in the individual through experiences that enhance the essential balance between humanity and the natural world,” is more than a concept; it is a guiding force in everything that we do.
An internship with Deer Hill will provide you with a first hand understanding of the multitudinous components involved in operating a high quality adventure education program. Working with a passionate community of educators and instructors will help develop your competency in a variety of skill sets. This internship will expose you to a wide range of experiences, each of which serves some element of our operations and contributes to your understanding of the program. It is our intention to create a positive and rewarding working relationship with our intern staff in which the individual’s educational goals are matched with our operational needs. Some of these responsibilities will put you in direct contact with programs while other duties will provide support to the facility and maintenance of Basecamp. Attention will be paid to assuring your involvement with the elements of Deer Hill Expeditions that contribute to your learning objectives.
