Description and Details

Adventure-Location-Variety Our one of a kind Adventure Sailing Program takes place at Camp Chingachgook YMCA, one of the premier tripping centers of the Northeast, in the heart of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. We are ~4 hours from Boston or NYC and are located right on the crystal-clear waters of Lake George. Our Adventure Sailing Trip Leaders work with coed groups of usually 10 teens and a co-leader for sailing trips on Lake George. Trips last approximately one week each and leaders will lead day trips from camp during weeks in between trips. Our overnight adventure trips camp on the islands of Lake George at night and spend the days sailing the beautiful waters of the Lake while the campers hone their sailing skill. Our trip leaders work to help the teens build character, learn outdoor skills, gain an appreciation for the natural world, and develop teamwork and leadership skills. This is a huge program, offering trips to both our own teens and a dozen other organizations that use us as their outfitter. Our 24' Rainbows serve as excellent teaching and tripping boats, providing great stability as well as responsiveness. Skippers qualified to lead other outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, whitewater rafting, biking, rock climbing, and more may also have the option to guide other 1 and 2-week long trips taking place throughout New York, New England, and neighboring states. Qualifications include sailing experience, proven ability to lead others in the outdoors and exercise sound judgment, a minimum age of 21, a desire to work with youth and teens, and current valid life guarding and wilderness first aid certifications (training can be provided at no cost for these certifications).
