Inner Quest adventures build teams, strengthen communication, deepen interpersonal responsibility, compassion, and heighten sensitivity to the natural environment. Thousands of people have experienced the benefits of Inner Quest’s unique adaptive programming: schools, colleges and universities, corporations, scouts, churches, interest groups and special populations. Inner Quest is conveniently located just outside of the Washington, D.C. area, with easy access to world-class paddling, biking, climbing, and hiking in a setting rich with history. Outdoor Education Instructor For the past 30 years we have offered hundreds of individuals the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to become outdoor educators by participating in our training program. Unlike most outdoor educator programs, which cost an individual several thousand dollars, we provide individuals with paid training and work experience. Upon successful completion of the program, trainees become eligible for an instructor position, pay and benefits. Responsibilities Apprentice Instructors participate in a full time 12-week training program where they will develop the knowledge and skills to effectively teach and facilitate small groups. In addition, apprentices put their training into action while working with our clients. Training includes challenge course, rock climbing, expedition leadership, caving, canoeing, first aid, map and compass, kayaking and numerous related subjects. Qualifications Minimum 18 years of age. Have an intense desire to learn, work hard, have fun, and develop into a professional member of the Inner Quest staff. Current First Aid, CPR, and/or Lifeguarding certification preferred. Experience in rock climbing, backpacking, canoeing and other outdoor activities is desirable, but not necessary. Applicants who have or are pursuing a college degree are preferred. The primary requisites are maturity, sound judgment, interest, and stamina.
