Eagle’s Nest Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to experiential education for young people—promoting the natural world and the betterment of human character. Eagle’s Nest sponsors two programs: Eagle’s Nest Camp – a co-ed summer camp for children ages 6-17, and The Outdoor Academy – a semester program for 10th grade students from across the country. The Outdoor Academy incorporates a college preparatory curriculum with environmental education, wilderness leadership, the arts, and regional studies. Students from public and private schools apply to attend our community-centered program in the mountains of North Carolina for one semester of their 10th grade year.
POSITION: Admissions Officer
CONTRACT DATES: August 1, 2010 – July 31, 2010 (dates of service, August 9 – May 25)
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Admissions Officer works closely with the Admissions Director and other administrative personnel to build enrollment for The Outdoor Academy and Eagle’s Nest Foundation. Primarily, she/he travels to cities throughout the Southeast, making power-point presentations in alumni homes and teaching environmental studies lessons at alumni schools. Travel often involves staying as a guest in alumni homes. She/He must be able to speak to groups of people interested in learning more about the exceptional opportunity that The Outdoor Academy offers. Extensive communication with schools, families, prospective students, and other constituents is an integral part of the position. The position reports to the Head of School, with daily supervision by the Admissions Director
PROMOTIONS RESPONSIBILITIES
• Using an Eagle’s Nest vehicle, school equipment, and a spending allowance, travel to cities throughout the Southeast, making visits to schools and alumni homes. At these venues, conduct power-point presentations for recruitment purposes and teach lessons in high school classrooms that represent the specialized environmental studies curriculum offered at OA.
• Assist the Admissions Director in planning and implementing promotional strategies with the goal of achieving full enrollment in The Outdoor Academy. Assist in updating and improving promotional materials and recruitment strategies in an effort to reach this goal.
• Communicate effectively and persuasively with schools, parents, and prospective students about the value of the Outdoor Academy experience. This requires well-developed skills in telephone, electronic, and interpersonal communication.
• Develop relationships with students, alumni, alumni families and schools so that they might host promotional events in their region.
• Help to schedule promotional events in schools and alumni homes.
• Together with the Admissions Director, develop and update power-point presentations that communicate the value of our program and attract the interest of prospective students.
• Track and make follow-up communication with prospective students.
QUALIFICATIONS
• B.A. or B.S. in a related field, or prior work experience in education, marketing, or public relations
• Strong public speaking capabilities and refined communication skills
• Ability and interest to work in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and other basic computer programs
• Well developed planning and organizational skills, and sound driving record
• Knowledge in the field of outdoor, experiential education and secondary education
• Enthusiasm for educational enrichment programming and holistic education
